This blog is dedicated to put forward just one idea at a time. The ideas are not original. The only verifiable link that will connect all these ideas is that they all aim toward one goal.
I am taking up just one idea per post because too many ideas in a post mean effectively nothing is left on the mind of reader.
For this post the idea is "out of any group, at max 10 % can be expected to be self-motivated honest.i.e. honest even without any external agent to monitor them.Similarily at max 10 % can be incorrigibly corrupt .They will remain corrupt despite the best of laws. The rest min 80 % would behave as honest or corrupt depending on the laws, boss, work environment etc".period.
what is said of honesty equally applies to many other behavioural features like punctuality, social empathy, optimism etc..
While you are free to object to the numerics of 10,10.,80..but I plead that the world's majority cannot be expected to be honest or punctual or clean on its own. Also world's majority is not too bad either. Most of the people behave as per external environment. What I have said for world hold true for india too.
Just to drive the idea deeper, I will take up a few examples. We, indian are said to be lacking punctuality. But it is a open secret that people working in pvt sector are at least more punctual than those working in govt sector.why? Its all abt environment.a office where the top level boss reports on time it is seen the staff is more punctual too. Again environment. Here environment is a broad term encompassing the rules of office, the ethics of individuals, work ethics, motivational level of staff and many other factors.
So the point I m trying to come to is Indians lack punctuality not because there is something wrong in genes .it is also not a hopeless fight to improve punctuality.also IT IS NOT BECAUSE WE ARE NOT TRULY LITERATE. We are literate enough.we need not believe that with improved standards of education in future people will automatically become honest.we can do it now if we just change things for the 80%.
This becomes even more clear as we see most of the Indians going to Japan or US become punctual. Most of rural-so called rustic- after a few journeys in delhi metro learn to maintain hygiene. Most of the people travelling in Delhi metro are most happy to leave their seats to those who need more and that too instinctively.
When an environment is created then except the bottom, @max10% every one else starts conforming to desirable behaviour.
If after reading till this point, you have started to see people in your surrounding not just as honest or lazy, but in totality along with the environment which explains their behaviour, I would deem it success. If you have started to see through the minor changes which will change the environment altering the behaviour of majority,it is success.
If we start to see the change happening around us by creating better environment, triggering better desirable behaviour, then the purpose of putting this idea is served.
